My husband and I have similar attitudes about cheerleading for people’s successes, whether those achievements are small or large. We are at least aware, that most people’s successes had first required them to go through a process that required work, time, discipline and sometimes money to achieve. That is worth cheering!
When we cheer for people, we celebrate not only the success of their endeavor, but also acknowledge the process that it takes to accomplish things. As cheerleaders, we bring to the forefront our own generosity and support. Furthermore, their accomplishment (s) provides us with the inspiration and hope that we too, can succeed with our goals.
I often wonder if some people are not especially enthusiastic about cheerleading for the rest of us because they experience jealousy or competitiveness. Or, is it that they feel such a lack of recognition in their own lives that they fail to give celebratory remarks. Whatever the reason, it really doesn’t matter. What matters is that if we desire for others to be supportive, encouraging or celebratory in our achievements, then we too, would be wise to give back.
I am not suggesting people force themselves in cheerleading for others, but what I am inviting people to do is to consider the benefits it provides to both parties. To take notice of the different environments around you for example, like in the social media you subscribe to and the people you’re surrounded by. What are people achieving or sharing in those environments in which you can participate? It doesn’t take much time or effort to support another, even if you are not the best of friends. Remember, it is as much about acknowledging the process of achievement rather than the actual achievement itself.
If you want to lift your spirits and be a source of inspiration to others, practice acknowledging the accomplishments of others and being a “Cheerleader”!
